CLEAR COAT IS REQUIRED WITH THIS PAINT

To ensure your paint repair blends in perfectly, you'll need to apply a clear coat over the color coat. While AutomotiveTouchup paint products are custom mixed to perfectly match the color of your 1990 BMW 5-Series, we use the same basecoat/clearcoat system as your factory specs. You can add a clear coat to your order on the next step. The paint code can be located underneath the hood near the front strut tower, on the firewall, or the passenger side wheel housing. Click here for BMW paint code location chart and paint code label examples.

Why The Two-Step Paint System?

Your 1990 BMW 5-Series is painted at the factory with a high quality basecoat/clearcoat system. This two-step paint system consists of step one, the basecoat, which is your car’s actual color, and step two, the clearcoat, the specially formulated clear paint that protects the base color and provides the luster and deep shine your vehicle came with when new. AutomotiveTouchup products faithfully reproduce your vehicle manufacturer’s basecoat/clearcoat system.

Here's what our customers are saying about our Touch Up Paint:

Bruce E, owner of a 1990 BMW 5-Series from Mathews, VA

My son had a raccoon incident and we had to replace the whole bumper cover on a 1990 BMW 525I (Delphin Gray, 183). I was hesitant to do the job because of bad experiences with the spray paint you get from a home center. This paint isn't anything like that; it goes on smooth and dries fast. I used a whole can to put 3 coats of base on. Don’t panic at what it looks like the clear coat is where the magic happens. After applying the clear coats the finish was unbelievable. The paint color was a perfect match. I did make a mistake (because I'm cheap). As per the instructions the base coat should be 2 or more light coats and the clear should be 3 or 4 wet coats. I only ordered enough clear to do 2 nice coats, it still looks perfect. Next time I'll be sure to order more clear than base. I’m very happy and would use Automotive Touchup again. Thanks.

Your color match is always great- thank you!

Blake W, owner of a 1991 BMW 3-Series from Henderson, NV

I have had black aftermarket fender flares on my e30 since I bought the vehicle. Wanted to paint match the brilliantrot OEM color. With an internet search, quickly found Automotive Touchup. So convenient buying the spray can option, since I no longer have any painting equipment. Used a light grey primer, then the base coat you guys provided, then gloss. The color is a perfect match! And definitely gives my car a nicer all around look, Thanks!
