Why The Two-Step Paint System?

Your 1996 Subaru Outback is painted at the factory with a high quality basecoat/clearcoat system. This two-step paint system consists of step one, the basecoat, which is your car’s actual color, and step two, the clearcoat, the specially formulated clear paint that protects the base color and provides the luster and deep shine your vehicle came with when new. AutomotiveTouchup products faithfully reproduce your vehicle manufacturer’s basecoat/clearcoat system.

Here's what our customers are saying about our Touch Up Paint:

Dan, owner of a 1996 Subaru Outback from OH

Good experience. Great color match. I should paint the whole car since the rest of it is faded with age. A little long processing time for the order, but quality is what I appreciate. I will shop again!! Dan

John M, owner of a 1997 Subaru Outback from Los Alamos, NM

Color and texture (with clear coat) are a perfect match for a 19-year-old car. I will order again.

Jason P, owner of a 1997 Subaru Legacy from Olympia, WA

I bought a car with decent paint except for the hood. It was peeling off in sheets and the previous owner had painted a black stripe up the center. I had purchased a spray can of color matched paint from Automotive Touchup once before to blend in some metal repair in an engine compartment and was fairly happy with the results, so I thought I would try their product for the hood as well. I purchased 2 spray cans of primer from the local parts store followed by 2 spray cans of base coat and 3 spray cans of clear coat from automotive touchup. I left the cans indoors to keep them warm. When I sprayed the hood, the temperature was around 60 degrees F and it was probably a little more humid than the directions suggest. I did this outside with the sun shining on the hood. The 2 cans of base coat was barely enough to cover it and I actually didn't think it was totally covered until I started to spray the clear over it. This is the first time that I have painted an exterior part of a car. The clear seemed to help even out the appearance of the base coat which is a metallic green. I put on 3 coats of clear and the final finish turned out a little hazy depending on the angle you are looking from. The color match is near perfect and considering that the car has been previously repainted, it is possible that the previous color match is the only difference. I think that in the future, I will invest in some paint spraying equipment and see if I can get a more professional looking finish. I think that will be more cost effective when painting anything that needs more than 2 cans of base coat. Overall, I am happy with the product and look forward to trying it with a paint gun.
