CLEAR COAT IS REQUIRED WITH THIS PAINT

To ensure your paint repair blends in perfectly, you'll need to apply a clear coat over the color coat. While AutomotiveTouchup paint products are custom mixed to perfectly match the color of your 1988 Ford Escort, we use the same basecoat/clearcoat system as your factory specs. You can add a clear coat to your order on the next step. The color code can be located in the driver side door jamb. Click here for the Ford paint code location chart and paint code image example.

Why The Two-Step Paint System?

Your 1988 Ford Escort is painted at the factory with a high quality basecoat/clearcoat system. This two-step paint system consists of step one, the basecoat, which is your car’s actual color, and step two, the clearcoat, the specially formulated clear paint that protects the base color and provides the luster and deep shine your vehicle came with when new. AutomotiveTouchup products faithfully reproduce your vehicle manufacturer’s basecoat/clearcoat system.

Brad M, owner of a 1987 Ford F250 from Philomath, OR

This comment is more of an update to last year's comments. Last year I never got to the painting because the weather turned to crap in mid-Oct here in western Oregon and my painting efforts are being done under a covered deck. So this summer I had plans to keep working on my F-250, but in June I contracted one of the worst cases of shingles that the doctors had ever seen. I still have recovering nerves. I nearly lost the entire summer lying flat on my back. Towards the end of August I finally did manage to get back to painting my truck. I had purchased an HVLP paint sprayer, but was not experienced in using it. The primer, basecoat and clear coat from Automotive Touchup was spectacular, but let's just say I could use a little more practice with the sprayer. I managed to get the hood and roof done and with the help of the polishing compound it came out acceptable. I suppose one of the tests of the basecoat would be to compare it with the original color from somewhere else on the truck, but the previous owner had most of the truck sprayed with bedliner material and the rest of the paint was so oxidized that comparisons are impossible. I will just say that the hood and roof are now the best looking part of the truck. Again, the primer, basecoat and clear coat are spectaclular. I just need more experience with the sprayer.....
